An executive from Electronic Arts has confirmed to the media that Apple has paid off the studio to purposely delay the release of Plants VS Zombies 2 on Android platforms (Google Play).

UPDATE: both Apple and EA (predictably) deny claims of securing PVZ 2 iOS exclusivity with a cash deal.

Frank Gibeau, head of EA Labels, tells Giant Bomb, “Apple gave us a truckload of money to delay the Android version [of Plants vs Zombies 2].” The gaming site confirmed the statement with several sources.

Launching exclusively on iOS, Plants VS Zombies 2 likely raked in the same “truckload of money” that Apple paid in the first place, probably (likely) even more.

The game has been an instant hit with the masses, and part of that success comes from the fact that it’s completely free to download and play. And even though it’s packed to the brim with in-app purchases, avid players have discovered that you can help Crazy Dave find his taco without spending a single dime.
