Apple has released “MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.0,” an important software release which all users of MacBook Air (mid 2012) models are advised to install.

According to Apple’s Support site, MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.0 is recommended for all owners of a mid-2012 MacBook Air configuration.

The Cupertino giant notes that “This update addresses a storage firmware issue that, in rare cases, may cause a system to fail to recover from a crash.”

Apple posts a warning text which specifically states, “Your MacBook Air requires this update.”

Users are told to connect their laptops to a working power source before proceeding with the installation, as well as to back up the data on their MacBook Air’s flash storage to an external disk.

“If you've already backed up your data, click Install Update to begin the update,” says the company.

Users are urged not to tamper with the Mac during the update process, because “If there is a problem during the update, your flash storage may become unusable and all the data on it could be lost.”

The MacBook Air will shut down after installing this update, and users need to wait one minute before restarting the laptop, Apple says.
