Apple has mistakenly referenced an unreleased version of its desktop operating system. The Mac maker subsequently corrected the erroneous text, but not before eagle eyes spotted the mistake and took the screenshots.

As the image above clearly shows (courtesy of MacRumors), Apple briefly referenced OS X 10.7.4 in regards to iPhoto for Mac on a section of its website dedicated to iOS applications from the App Store.

OS X 10.7.4 not only hasn’t been released to the public, the software hasn’t even been handed to Apple developers for testing (as far as we know). The latest version of OS X Lion currently available is OS X 10.7.3.

The respective “iPhoto for Mac” box now states “iPhoto for Mac works with any Mac running OS X v10.6.8 or later.”

Mac OS X 10.6 is Apple’s older Snow Leopard operating system which makes up about a third of the entire Macintosh install base at the moment.
