You can’t buy a brand new original iPad mini anymore

As Apple is most likely preparing to unveil new iPad products in a few months, we’re seeing a few changes related to the Cupertino tech giant’s tablet lineup.

If you remember, last year, Apple introduced the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3, and at the same time the company said the original iPad mini would continue to be sold for the discounted price of $249 / €220.

The original iPad mini was actually the last device Apple offered that did not take advantage of a Retina display. And now the company believes time has come to put the tablet to rest.

The thing is, it was getting increasingly difficult to market the first shrunken tablet Apple ever produced. After all, the iPad mini 2 is selling for $299 / €264, and for the difference in cash, customers get a device with a much better screen, twice the RAM, and four times the processing power.

So Apple has quietly removed the original iPad mini from its website and Apple Store, throwing the device into oblivion without much fuss (as seen at 9to5Mac).

Nevertheless, if you continue to have your heart set on the original iPad mini, you can still get it via Apple’s own refurbished section in the online store.
