Rovio, the Norwegian developer of the hit Angry Birds game and its various spinoffs, has revealed that its different versions were downloaded more than 6.5 million times on Christmas Day alone.

Angry Birds has become somewhat of a phenomenon in the last couple of years, with the mobile game being experienced by hundreds of millions of people from all around, across platforms like the smartphones or tablets, not to mention straight from web browsers like Google Chrome.

Now, as further proof of the sheer ubiquity of the game, Rovio has confirmed that on Christmas Day, December 25, more than 6.5 million copies of the game, as well as its various spinoffs, were downloaded, both in the form of paid and free editions.

"We're really excited to have such a massive number of new people get acquainted with Angry Birds over the holidays - we have exciting new releases lined up for 2012, and can't wait to introduce them to the public," Rovio’s VP of franchise development, Ville Heijari, said about this achievement.
