Developer The Creative Assembly prefers the PlayStation 4 version of the upcoming horror game Alien: Isolation, mainly because the DualShock 4 controller acts as a motion tracker.

The PlayStation 4 version of the thriller is the developer's favorite, but not for any of the usual resolution / frames per second reason that is sparking up heated debates all over the Internet, but for a simpler and much more interesting reason: the console's DS4 controller.

At a time when every discussion thread is boggled by endless comments regarding visual disparity between the two new consoles from Sony and Microsoft, and everyone is arguing about steady frame rates and the Xbox One's slightly inferior hardware, it's genuinely refreshing to see something like this pop up.

Creative Assembly's Gary Napper has stated that the DualShock 4 will act as a motion tracker within Alien: Isolation, claiming that although when the feature was first tested it felt more like a nice gimmick, the general consensus now is that "it genuinely is a very good feature."

"My favourite version is the PS4 version – and I say that as a massive Microsoft fan – so to say the PS4 version is my favourite feels a bit weird. The reason is – and it's so minor – but we've made the DS4 to act like the motion tracker, so it lights up along with the radar blips and if the alien's close-by it goes off quicker.

"It adds so much immersion, when it's all dark and your legs are lit up in your peripheral vision," Napper has told NowGamer.

He has clarified that the development team at Creative Assembly has something very specific and unique in mind for each of the platforms that the game is coming to, but that it seems that the PlayStation 4 experience is just a little bit more immersive than the rest.

Napper has also made a comparison between the last-gen and next-gen versions of the upcoming first-person horror title, assuring that the only difference between them is when it comes to the level of detail and general visual fidelity, with the game's dynamic artificial intelligence and the tense mood remaining unchanged.

The upcoming game is a survival horror video game, as opposed to previous entries set in the Alien universe, which were action shooters. The game is styled to resemble Ridley Scott's original Alien horror film, having players use stealth and cunning in order to survive, with the limited weapons only being effective against other humans.

Alien: Isolation is currently scheduled to come out on October 7, for the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.
