According to the latest news on the Web, the Nokia E71x, which was expected to come to AT&T in the near future, is rumored to sport a software update that pushes it to S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2, and some screenshots of the software come to sustain the theory. At the same time, it is a common fact that the unbranded version available today includes the S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1.

The differences between the Feature Pack 2 and Feature Pack 1 are reported to include a redesigned Active Standby view as well as a new Device Manager, which allows users to get information about the handset. Furthermore, Feature Pack 2 comes with support for Destinations, which appears to be some sort of an access point group and prioritization feature, providing the phone with the possibility to automatically check for available WiFi networks prior to making a data connection.

Photos and specs on the yet unannounced Nokia E71x for AT&T have cycled around for quite some time, yet now seems to be the first time we can actually see what version of S60 it is running. In the pictures attached to this article, which are stated to have been taken by a HowardForums member, the owner of an E71x acquired from Craigslist, one can easily see that there are a few changes from the Feature Pack 1 view.

Basically, the Active Standby appears modified from S60v3 FP1, while the Device Manager view also shows some improvements, different from the popup notification present on the unbranded Nokia E71. Neither Nokia nor AT&T have officially confirmed the E71x yet, so it is unclear at the moment whether the device will come with a software upgrade or not. No details on the price or the release date of the handset have been unveiled either.
