With all the issues regarding power efficiency and environmental footprints, companies are constantly on the lookout for ways of reducing the power draw of their new inventions, while still providing a high level of performance. The Designo MS series of monitors from ASUS is one line that strives to achieve this goal, and its number of members has just increased by two. The newcomers that ASUS unleashed go by the names of MS208N and MS228H.

The MS208N and MS228H are alike in the way that they have the same 16.5mm-thick profile and use the ever so popular LED backlighting technology, which requires less power than other solutions. They also employ the same glossy piano black frame and have the same maximum power consumption of 25W. As far as specifications go, however, they are quite different, though their prices are not that far apart.

The MS228H is the higher-end model and has a display with a screen size of 21.5 inches and a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It also has a brightness of 250 cd/m2 and a GTG (gray to gray) response time of 2ms. Furthermore, video input is received via HDMI and D-Sub connectors, but the dynamic contrast ratio is the real asset of this product. It is of 10,000,000:1. As for the 20-inch MS208N, it features a resolution of 1,600 x 900, a GTG response time of 5ms, the same brightness of 250 cd/m2 as its sibling and a DCR of 'only' 50,000:1. Finally, communication with host PCs is possible through D-Sub and DVI inputs.

The MS208N and MS228H should already be listed by online retailers. Consumers interested in more information can visit their respective product pages, which their maker already set up on its website. The former can be found here, and the latter here.
