14 DAY TRIAL // Together with the introduction of the company's flagship quad-core processor, the Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition, AMD has also lowered the prices of its entire line of Athlon II and Phenom II CPUs.
On average, the prices were reduced with about 11.6 percent, but some processors got their price cut with more than 20%.
In absolute terms this resulted in an $8 or less price reduction for the company's budget Athlon II chips, but Phenom II CPUs got anywhere in between $10 and $65 cheaper.
The biggest price drop was achieved by the Phenom II X4 905e, that went from $165 to $100, while the second in line was the Athlon II X3 405e CPU which now retails for $72, 25.8% lower than before.
AMD's Phenom II X6-series processors also saw a significant price decrease as the 1100T Black Edition is now available for $205, compared to its previous $239 MSRP.
In addition, the Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition is now available for $185, the same price as the recently released X4 980 Black Edition.
This makes the 980 BE a really tough to recommend acquisition as the 1090T features 50% more cores and also supports the Turbo Core technology, which dynamically adjusts the frequency of the CPU according to the number of threads run.
AMD has changed the recommended prices of its processors to better adjust its lineup to the five newly introduced Athlon II and Phenom II processors as well as to the prices of Intel's Sandy Bridge chips.
Furthermore, at the beginning of June, the Sunnyvale-based company is expected to make official both the mainstream A-series Llano APUs as well as the FX-series high-performance CPUs built on the Bulldozer architecture, which will make many of its current processor obsolete. (via CPU-World)
