Apple expected to launch a new iPhone SE this spring

Apple is believed to be working on a refresh of the iPhone SE lineup, and a concept published recently by Svetapple provides us with an early look at a possible design of this device.

While at first glance the concept looks like something that could happen, there’s one part that has zero chances to see the daylight on a new iPhone SE. And you’ll find out what it is in a minute.

First and foremost, the concept envisions a modern iPhone SE based on the iPhone 12 mini, so it’d come with a 5.4-inch OLED screen. There’s just one camera on the back, namely a 12-megapixel unit, while under the hood power comes from an Apple A14 Bionic chip with 4GB RAM.

Touch ID and Face ID under the same roof

The design is obviously inspired by the iPhone 12, but the big news is the 2021 iPhone SE in this concept also integrates a Touch ID sensor embedded right in the fingerprint sensor. This is something that made the headlines several times lately, as Apple is apparently considering bringing back Touch ID without actually offering a home button.

The thing we are very unlikely to get is the front-facing camera which isn’t embedded in a notch, as one would naturally expect, but feature a cutout in the screen like the Samsung Galaxy S21. This is an approach that Apple hasn’t used before and which it’s unlikely to embrace for the new iPhone SE too.

Sources familiar with the matter said the new iPhone SE would be based on the iPhone 11, so it’d come with the traditional design and not the new look with square edges. A notch would also be offered, so the iPhone SE could become the first iPhone to launch with both Face ID and Touch ID under the same roof.
