Apple not interesting in making devices more affordable

One of the reasons that sales of the iPhone X were originally said to be well below expectations was the high price tag, as the base model costs $999 in the United States with 64GB storage.

With this mind, many believed the next-generation iPhone launching in 2018 would come with a substantial price cut, as the 2017 fiasco could bring Apple back to earth and convince the company to make its devices more affordable.

In the meantime, however, Apple revealed that iPhone X was the best-selling model in every week of the March quarter, explaining that despite the negative forecasts, the device has until now been very successful.

As a result, a price cut for the upcoming generation of iPhones is very unlikely, especially as the device is selling like hot cakes anyway and Apple has basically no reason to do this.

Three iPhone models launching this year

A report from Digitimes and citing people close to the matter indicates that Cupertino isn’t willing to make the iPhone more affordable this year, and the company expects strong sales from all three models expected to see daylight in September.

TPK and General Interface Solution (GIS) will be in charge of making touch panels for the new family of iPhones, with the first to account for 40 percent of all orders. Furthermore, the same companies will manufacture panels for the LCD model expected to see daylight this year and projected to come with a smaller price than the OLED siblings.

The 2018 iPhone trio will also include a successor to the iPhone X, as well as a Plus-sized model likely to feature a 6.5-inch display. All devices will feature facial recognition and a design similar to the iPhone X, with Face ID instead of a home button with an integrated fingerprint sensor.

Pricing details are obviously unknown at this point, the Plus model could be even more expensive than the iPhone X.
