Toshiba Posts $1 Billion Loss on HD-DVD Pull-Out
Japanese conglomerate Toshiba expects about $1 billion yearly loss as the result of having shut down its HD DVD business. Toshiba conceded defeat last month after a few months of continual battle against Sony's Blu-Ray high-definition format. Infineon Wants Out of Qimonda
German chip and memory maker Infineon Technologies announced that it will lower its shares in Qimonda to less than 50 percent over the next two years. Qimonda started in 2006 as a division of Infineon Technologies that specialized in making different kinds of chips for computers and the parent company still owns the vast majority of Qimonda shares, around 86 percent. Transmeta's Problems Are Not Over
Transmeta announced its financial results for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2007 and the news isn't good. During the second quarter, the company registered revenues of $171.000, including "146,000 of service revenue and $25,000 of end-of-life product revenue", much lower than the revenues registered during the first quarter when the company received a total of $2.1 million.
