Be that as it may, the number is big enough to require some professional care, and that’s why the Australasian Consumer Fraud Taskforce has been instituted. Their event in full swing by now is the Fraud Fortnight, aimed at raising awa ... [read more >>]

Biggest-ever Spanish Probe into Internet Fraud
Internet crime is very alluring because it is fairly easy to commit and it doesn’t take the mastermind planning required to rob a bank. It’s mostly a routine job of going through credit card numbers and transacting from others’ accounts into their favor or promising items that you don’t have and then disappearing into the blue with the money. It’s not really that easy, but it’s got no kicks to it other than the law kicking your b ... [read more >>]

Credit cards reached the web. False Positives Make Crime Go Unpunished!
That’s the usual case – when the Police receives too many complaints, some get unnoticed and some criminals remain unpunished. Some people panic too much and send the Police a lot of notifications regarding suspicious activities. For example, up to 300.000 Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) are filed every month in the U.S., and up to 200,000 a year in the U.K, as I’ve seen on ComputerWorld’s site. You can imagine that with the w ... [read more >>]

New eBay Security Measure Deemed Useless
eBay just came up with something new to protect their customers. To me, this measure does not mean too much, but that’s just my opinion. You decide for yourself if it’s any good. What they just did is increase buyer protection to £500. That would be nice if it were to protect you in any situation, but they have curbed this a bit. If you buy from a qualified seller (what most of us will call a "trusted user") and your pr ... [read more >>]

Stolen Data Results in Huge Fraud
There have been many news items earlier this year about the huge data breach that hit retailer giant TJX. It has been a while now since phishing became the trendiest online threat. Although there have been taken measures against this type of scam, there are still plenty of victims out there. Credit Card Fraudsters Steal and Donate the Money
A new technique to steal credit cards and remain unidentified is spreading on the Internet, numerous attackers preferring to donate money to charity in order to verify the validity of the cards.
