Samsung Phases Out 600 Mhz Q1 Ultra UMPC, Goes for Faster, Pricier Processor
Although UMPCs haven't really taken off so far, as their target market segment is not exactly a very wide one, it seems that manufacturers are trying to do their best in order to keep up with the market trends and demands. And a very good example of their commitment to development is the case of Samsung, who just canned its whole line of UMPCs fitted with 600MHz Intel A100 processors in favor of the more potent 800MHz A110 CPU. Th ... [read more >>]

Asus Rolls Out An $199 UMPC
Probably yes. If you're not taking into account the OLPC or INTEL's Classmate laptop. Evidently since the OLPC and INTEL's own laptop for kids are not exactly fully functional machines you can't put them in the same category with Asus' own UMPC. However if we're to elevate this discussion a step further, one could say that Asus' portable is not a real laptop. Or is it? In order to agree or ... [read more >>]

Raon Everun - the Evolved UMPC
Although Microsoft presented the Origami UMPC project as a revolution in the field of mobile PCs, few companies have decided to provide such ultra-portable devices. We only heard of Microsoft's UMPC prototypes and Samsung's Vista UMPC, but this was about six months ago. However, an obscure company known as Raon is now presenting their own UMPC concept, bringing hope to the development of the Origami project. The latest UMPC f ... [read more >>]

Mobile Internet Devices, the Future of the UMPC
For the mobile market, Intel isn't quite content with pretty much owning the notebook segment, so they are digging into the Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) market as well. That's why Intel has released the Ultra Mobile Platform 2007, which is based on the Intel A100 (downclocked Pentium M running at 600MHz, 90nm process node, 512KB L2 cache, 3W TDP), A110 (800MHz, 90nm process node, 512KB L2 cache, 3W TDP) processors, the Intel ... Intel Shrinks CPU to Fit New UMPC
A funny thing came to mind when I learned that Intel was going to take another stab at the Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) market; I saw a movie in which somebody said that smokers are getting heckled for smoking and they in turn replied by saying “I'm gonna quit, I've tried quitting” and so on, but nobody is heckling fat people for eating so much, and although I cannot replicate the terms being used, I recalled the scene when I ... The Q1P version represents a truly ultra-mobile device that provides the power of a PC, but can be accessed anytime, anywhere, even when there is no room for desktop and laptop PCs. Resembling hi-tech PDA designs and intended as as a companion ... [read more >>]
