14 DAY TRIAL // Online auction and shopping website, eBay has launched RedLaser, an “mpossibly accurate barcode scanning” solution for iDevice owners.
RedLaser is marketed as the fastest and easiest to use solution of its kind: “It has everything you loved in RL Classic and more of the functionality you have told us you are looking for! RedLaser is still free to download!”, says eBay.
That’s right - it’s not an update to the previous app, but an altogether new one. In fact, eBay makes a note instructing customers to delete the old one if they want the new functionality.
It’s basically the same service, only much improved:
“The new RedLaser is an all-new app, which means previous versions (RL Classic or RedLaser 2.9.8 or earlier) won’t automatically update, nor will installing the new RedLaser overwrite any previous versions you may have installed,” says the company
“If you have a previous version of RedLaser on your iPhone and are no longer using it, you can safely delete it.”
eBay advises customers with a scan history on their iPhone to save it and use the “share via email” feature before deleting it, as it will not migrate to the new app.
RedLaser searches thousands of retailers for the best prices. It features product results from Google, TheFind, eBay, Milo and others, and uses state-of-the-art barcode recognition that can read virtually any product barcode or QR code, according to the developers.
The RedLaser List feature allows you to create shopping or wish lists and then share them.
The whole interface has been redesigned with easier access to scanning, searching, lists, and QR code creation.
Best of all, there’s an In-app Checkout feature that lets you purchase directly from the app for home delivery, or local in-store pickup from select stores. RedLaser is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad 2 Wi-Fi and iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G and requires iOS 4.0 or later.
