World of Goo for Linux Is Here

It's time for the oppressed Linux gaming community to start hoping again as there is a new awesome game available for their platform. The 2D Boy team (which consists of Ron Carmel and Kyle Gabler) officially announced the immediate availability of the Linux client for their popular "World of Goo" physics-based puzzle game.

Released back in October 2008 for both Windows and Mac OS platforms, World of Goo is an addictive puzzle that may look simple at first but the more you play the more challenging it gets.

You take control of a bunch of "goo balls" that need to be rescued by creating a network of goo from the starting point to a pipe. You'll need to be extra careful and think twice before you act as your hard-built structures are almost always just a step away from collapsing. In the more advanced levels, you will have the ability to go back in time by "popping" a limited number of "TimeBugs," some innocent flying insects.

Another element that will accompany you throughout the game is in the form of board signs that will give you gameplay tips. These will always bear the signature of their creator: The Sign Painter, of course, who did you think?

Once in a while, you'll be assisted by different goo balls with special abilities, like the red ones that can lift structures up in the air. The terrain is also filled with dangerous areas: spikes, water, saws and many others. But your biggest enemy will be the unforgiving gravity, patiently waiting for you to make that wrong step and take control of your helpless goo buddies.

With scores that didn't get below 90%, World of Goo is appreciated by both gamers and critics. The Linux version runs as smoothly as on any other platform so I'm sure it will gain a lot of new fans.
