We take a short stroll through the new Australis user interface

Mozilla has released a new version of Firefox 29.x Aurora, the second Alpha in this branch, and it comes with an interesting look and features. We prepared a short screenshot tour of the new interface.

Mozilla has waited for a long time to upgrade the user interface. The last major change was when they finally managed to get past the 3.x branch. If you remember correctly, it was a very bold step for them back then and they took a lot of flak for it.

The switch to the new Australis interface is not looking better. Unifying the menus under one roof seems to the main contention against it, but there is also a vocal group in the community that says it looks too much like Google Chrome.

The fact is that if you try it you will find that it's not actually like Google Chrome at all. It may feature rounded corners for tabs, but that is only one aspect. The menus look unique, the font is matching perfectly, and the functionality is spot on.

It may take users some time to get used with the new look and feel, but most likely they will grow to like it, just like they did with the current interface.
