14 DAY TRIAL // YouTube has just launched its live streaming platform and it hasn't been wasting much time promoting it, by showcasing that YouTube can be a great place for video as well. And it couldn't have chosen a better event than the Coachella festival which is happening right now in California.
If scorching heat and three days of partying are a bit too much for you, or if you couldn't make it there this year, YouTube provides a great alternative.
You can check out the live acts from three different stages all weekend long, but there are also interviews and other videos as well.
"YouTube will webcast the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival directly from Indio, California to your computer -- without the 98 degree heat!," YouTube's Sarah Bardeen writes.
"Thanks to 5GUM, Coachella and YouTube, the world will have a front row seat to over 60 acts being live-streamed all weekend long at youtube.com/Coachella," she announced.
"Tune in to watch sets by some of the biggest names in music, as well as the bands that have critics buzzing. The lineup is nothing short of astonishing: Kings of Leon. Cee Lo Green. Mumford and Sons. The Strokes. Duran Duran. The National. Nas + Damian Marley. The Black Keys. Ms. Lauryn Hill," she added.
You can't watch all of the bands, there are six stages at Coachella this year, but you get a pretty solid selection on the three channels YouTube is streaming.
You can check out the lineup on the dedicated YouTube channel, there are plenty of bands and artists and, with luck, you'll find some of your favorite music in there.
Online video and live streaming are not exactly cutting edge, yet the web is only just beginning to scratch at the surface of what's possible. YouTube may be big now, but, being part of Google, it has its sights on a much bigger target, eventually replacing TV entirely. And it's going to take big live events, sports matches, movies and everything in between to make it happen.
