As Jacob the wolf comes to Bella’s defense

As announced a while ago, the first official “New Moon” trailer was premiered at this year’s edition of MTV Movie Awards and, should fans’ reaction so far be a good indication of greatness, this almost 2-minute clip is absolutely fabulous. Keeping in mind that the first trailer also offers a look at Taylor Lautner’s recently buffed up torso, it’s safe to say that “Twilight” fans from all over the world must be besides themselves with anticipation and joy.

The first 15 seconds of the trailer are, as we also informed you on Saturday, the teaser that Summit released before the big event. The remaining of the trailer shows why Edward decided to leave Bella – so as to avoid exposing her to unnecessary risks –, and the consequences this action brings about. Alone and defenseless, Bella is about to become prey to another vampire when Jacob comes to her defense.

As we were also telling you a while back, thanks to a revealing interview by Alex Meraz, when they turn into wolves, they understandably lose their clothes – and the same happens with Lautner’s character as well. So, right before the shape-shifting scene, the young actor is briefly shown without as much as a wife beater, in his bare torso and with muscles well defined, thus marking the moment most “Twilight” female fans have been waiting for ever since Taylor first spoke about gaining almost 30 pounds of muscle for the part.

Based on the just released trailer, estimates are saying that “New Moon” actually stands to make more money at the box-office and in merchandise than the original “Twilight,” in what would be a rare instance in the movie industry. The guys at Twilight Lexicon, one of the biggest online communities dedicated exclusively to “The Twilight Saga,” seem to be very convinced that this is precisely what will happen come November, when the second installment hits theaters.

“Our prediction: It will beat the odds and outsell the original at the box office. Sequels almost never sell more than the originals. This one is going to do it.” a post on Twilight Lexicon accompanying the first trailer of “New Moon” reads. Until fans get to see whether this truly turns out to be the case, they should be prepared for the supposedly extremely aggressive promo campaign Summit has prepared for the film – not that anyone would mind if it really is so, as speculation has it.

In the meanwhile, below is the first official trailer for “New Moon.” Watch and enjoy, and keep an eye on this space for updates.
