Just as expected, it’s happening: after SyFy’s latest original movie, “Sharknado,” proved a hit with audiences, a sequel has just been confirmed by Thomas Vitale, executive vice president of programming and original movies for the network.

In a statement cited by Gossip Cop, Vitale confirms a sequel is underway, which, this time, will bring the shark tornado upon the good people of New York.

“Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm – on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel,” Vitale says.

“What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun. We’ll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn’t want our fans to worry they wouldn’t get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year,” he adds.

Vitale doesn’t say whether Tara Reid or Ian Ziering will be returning for the second film, but he’s waiting for fans’ suggestions for the name, so hit up @SyFyMovies on Twitter.
