South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung is gearing up for the release of its largest Android-based smartphone on the market in Australia as soon as next week.

The smartphone, none other than the Samsung Galaxy Note, has been long rumored to be on its way to the Australian market, but no official details on when that might happen have emerged until now.

Specific info on the device’s availability will become available only next week, during an event confirmed for March 13th, PCWorld Australia reports.

Some wireless carriers in the country have already announced plans to add the device to their offerings, but it remains to be seen when exactly that happens.

Galaxy Note packs a large 5.3-inch touchscreen display and features a dual-core application processor, along with 1GB of RAM.

The smartphone can provide users with a great viewing experience while on the go, and some more capabilities, courtesy of Samsung’s S Pen technology included with the device.

Not to mention that it packs support for a variety of services and applications available through the Android Market.

Samsung launched the mobile phone with Android 2.3 on board, but also promised an update to Android 4.0 for it for early 2012.

Samsung has yet to confirm an official release date for the platform. For those who would like to learn more on the device itself, the company has launched a microsite on which it offers all the details users would like to receive on the phone.

"There is an emerging desire for a primary device for on-the-go use that could consolidate the core tasks of multiple devices as well as recreate the ease and simplicity of using a pen and paper," Samsung states on Galaxy Note’s micro site.

"The Galaxy Note is a primary device that will minimise the need to switch to other devices while on the go and open up the potential of your mobile experience."
