Officially unveiled last week, Samsung Character messaging phone has just been introduced by U.S. Cellular carrier.

The slider is now available for purchase via U.S. Cellular's stores and online for only $39.99 after a $50 mail in rebate and with a new two-year agreement, or for $59.99 on prepaid.

The phone features a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard and comes with a 2.8-inch touchscreen with 240 x 320 pixels resolution.

The full touchscreen allows users to operate numerous functions of the phone without the need for a keyboard.

The Character measures 107 x 55 x 15mm and weighs 120g (battery included), which makes it perfectly pockesizable.

Samsung Character adds to U.S. Cellular's lineup of messaging phones, including the LG Saber and Samsung Messager.

Even though this is just a feature-phone, the Samsung Character comes with Samsung TouchWiz Lite user interface, which gives the keyboard an intuitive sense as it helps speed up the process of typing, so users won't have to type every letter of every word.

With only a sub-par 1.3-megapixel camera on the back, the Character is not the ideal device to take pictures, but it will do the job when needed.

Users can share photos by uploading them to social networking sites or by instantly messaging them to any contacts in the phonebook.

Samsung Character provides users with a built-in shortcut that allows them instant access right from the Menu button to apps, plus all their favorite social networking sites.

Besides its proven messaging capabilities, Samsung Character can be used as a music player thanks to its built-in Native music player.

In addition, music lovers will also be glad to know it has microSD card support, so they can slide in a microSD memory card to provide additional space and store more of their favorite songs.

The phone's 1000 mAh Li-Ion battery should provide up to 5 hours of talk time or up to 12 days of standby time.
