PayPal has been looking at ways it can expand to new areas, mobile seems like an obvious choice, but social networking is too. Which explains the Send Money PayPal app for Facebook.

The new app is rather interesting, as the name implies, it enables users to send money to their friends.

The social aspects of it, as you'd expect, are rather well developed, you can send an e-card along with the money, or simply attach a photo, a message and so on.

"Facebook users can now send money to their friends and family whether it’s for a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary or just because along with an e-card, photos, videos and a message. With just a few clicks and a PayPal account," PayPal explained.

The app makes it easy to send money to friends who may be far away, something that anyone wanting to do that has found hasn't been easy until now.

All the methods involved some sort of commission and a lot of hassle. "Send money" on the other hand is free, but only in some circumstances.

If both the recipient and the sender live in the US and the money comes from PayPal credit or a bank account. If you use a credit or debit card instead, PayPal keeps 2.9 percent of the transaction as well as a fixed 30 cent commission.

For international transfers, the fees go from 0.5 percent to 3.9 percent, from case to case. Still, "Send money" is a much better alternative to pretty much anything out there.

And the interesting part are the e-cards. No matter the occasion, you'll find an e-card for it and you can send it to a friend along with some money. PayPal is the largest payments service online, but Facebook has some 800 million users, a luring number for any company out there.
