Valerie Spruill from Doylestown, Ohio watched her biggest fear turn to reality when a postmortem DNA test revealed she had been married to her own father.

Valerie had lived with her grandmother since she was just three months old. It was years until she found out the identity of her mother, Christine, the Inquisitr reports.

Christine was a “night lady” that had previously appeared as a witness in the much publicized trial of Judge James Barbuto in 1980. Barbuto was convicted for requesting improper favors from female defendants, in exchange for judicial help.

Her mother came to visit her from time to time, but never discussed their relationship. She posed as a friend of the grandmother's.

Valerie was the fruit of Christine's affair with Percy, a then 15-year-old boy from Mississippi. At 9 years old, the girl was told who her mother was, and that she had already passed away, but she received no information about her father.

A few years later, she met Percy at her grandmother's house. As he was introduced as a family friend, she had no reason to suspect that they had a genetic bond. The man was working as a truck driver and parking lot attendant in Akron. They soon became romantically involved and, eventually, got married.

Valerie and Percy had three children. At 60, she is now a grandmother of eight. It was after her husband died, at 60, that an uncle suggested the man might have been her real father. Her grandmother had never revealed this secret.

Valerie suspects that her father had uncovered the awful truth a while back, but kept it silent so that their relationship wouldn't be destroyed. She took hair from one of his combs and performed a DNA test that confirmed this information.

She is now trying to locate any siblings she might have.

“I want this to be more of an inspirational story. If I’ve come through this, anyone can come through anything through the help of the Lord,” she says.
