Earlier this week, mobile phone maker Nokia announced the release of a new high-end smartphone, the Nokia N9, their first device to run under the MeeGo operating system, and some info on when might the handset land on shelves has just emerged.

Apparently, the company would aim at having the new Nokia N9 put on shelves in Sweden on September 23rd, where wireless carrier Three apparently committed to have it available on its network.

One of the most appealing feature of the new device is the fact that it is all-touch, without physical buttons included on its front.

According to Nokia, the handset does not need these buttons, as users can easily control it through gestures.

The Nokia N9 is a consumer-focused MeeGo device, accompanied by a developer handset, the N950, which adds a QWERTY keyboard into the mix.

Earlier this year, Nokia promised that newly unveiled devices will be brought to the market faster than before, and it already made such a move with the Nokia E6 and X7, which went for sale in less than two months after being made official.

September 23rd is three months away, which means that N9 will not land in Sweden as fast as some might have expected. However, the device might be released in other markets before that, although nothing was detailed on the matter.

One way or the other, the new Nokia N9 seems to have been launched mainly to fit the needs of enthusiasts, rather than for gaining a lot of market share, and those looking to purchase a device will certainly wait for it to become available.

The handset comes with a 3.9-inch AMOLED screen, 16GB and 64GB options of internal memory, an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back with HD video recording, Near Field Communications (NFC) capabilities, and more.

Nokia also packed the new device with a polycarbonate body aimed at delivering superior antenna performance.
