The new iPhone model does resemble the looks of Lumia 620

Yesterday, Apple unveiled to the world two new iPhone models, namely the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S, which finally bring some more color to the company’s lineup of smartphones.

To be more precise, iPhone 5C was announced in a multitude of colors, which made Nokia react and start mocking the Cupertino-based company.

Their reason is a simple one, as the new device appears to resemble a lot Nokia’s Lumia smartphones, which also come with colorful shells.

The Finnish handset vendor took it to Twitter to post a photo of its smartphones with the tagline “Imitation is the best form of flattery.” The company also added the following message to the image: “Thanks, Apple.”

Nokia enthusiasts have started to post similar messages on the microblogging network and on other sites, claiming that the new iPhone 5C resembles a lot the Nokia Lumia 620 that was launched in December.

In fact, even the press photo that Apple has posted for the new smartphone is somewhat similar to that published by Nokia when it unveiled the Lumia 620. You can see both of them below.

All in all, the two devices do seem to resemble a lot, especially when you consider the choice of colors that both companies went for.

However, there is one aspect of the deal that some people might have forgotten, and which is of great importance here, in Apple’s defense.

The new iPhone 5C sports looks that resemble a lot those of iPod touch 5th generation, which was launched last year. Basically, this would mean that Apple only continued using the same design over various products.

On top of that, there’s also a design resemblance between Nokia’s Lumia handsets and Apple’s iPod nano 4th generation, which featured a curved body when launched back in 2008. iPod nano 7th gen, launched last year, continues on the same pattern.

All in all, it might seem like each of the two companies is entitled to claim that the other vendor has copied its design, and both appear to be right. The photos attached to this post should speak for themselves.

From my point of view, today’s market is so crowded with devices that there’s little room for actual innovation design-wise, and situations like this cannot be easily avoided, if at all.

However, that’s only the way I see things, and you may have a different opinion. If you do, please don’t hesitate to share it with us in the comments section below.
