The rugged Motorola DEFY XT320 has just made its debut in Mexico via Movistar. Beginning today, customers can purchase the smartphone for only $2,999 pesos (225 USD or 185 EUR) on prepaid.

Moreover, the DEFY XT320 is also available for free on Plan Select 400 on a 2-year contract, so customers won’t have to rob the bank in order to grab this budget-friendly smartphone.

The good news is that the device features a dust-proof and water-resistant body, while the bad news is that it comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform and will be stuck on this version forever.

Obviously, there are ways to put Ice Cream Sandwich operating system on phones that won’t be getting an official upgrade, but this requires root and other third-party tools.

Anyway, the DEFY XT320 also features a scratch-resistant 3.2-inch Corning Gorilla Glass display that supports 320 x 480 pixels resolution and 262k colors.

When it comes to hardware, Motorola DEFY XT320 is far from being impressive. In fact this is one of the cheapest Android phone launched by Motorola this year, so expect only low specs from this one.

The device is powered by a low-performance 600 MHz single-core processor and packs 512MB of RAM, 512MB of ROM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

There’s also a 3-megapixel camera on the back, which features LED flash and video recording. Surprisingly, the DEFY XT320 also sports a secondary VGA front-facing camera for video calls.

Last but not least, the smartphone’s 1650 mAh Li-Ion battery is rated by the manufacturer for up to 500 hours of standby time or up to 10 hours of talk time.

Motorola DEFY XT320 is just the right mix of style, value, performance and toughness. It can stand up to whatever your busy life throws at you, keep you connected and organized, and capture and share your once-in-a-lifetime adventures – all with resilience and style,” said Silvina Gonzalez Podesta, marketing director Motorola Mobility Mexico.
