14 DAY TRIAL // Of the few people the late King of Pop Michael Jackson let into his life – and heart – and with whom he kept a close relationship until the end, Brooke Shields was admittedly the one who knew him best. The two met when they were still kids and struck a friendship that stood the test of time, a friendship Michael held so high he even asked her to marry him, as the actress reveals in a recent interview.
Brooke Shields is featured in the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone magazine, honoring the amazing entertainer and man that Michael Jackson was. In a reportedly very touching interview, the actress recalls the fun times she and the singer used to have as kids and even later on, after growing up. At one point, she even says that Michael loved her so much that he actually asked her several times to marry him, presumably out of fear of losing such a dear friend, as The Daily Dish can confirm.
“There were times when he would ask me to marry him, and I would say, ‘You have me for the rest of your life, you don’t need to marry me, I’m going to go on and do my own life and have my own marriage and my own kids, and you’ll always have me’.” Shields says of her relationship to the one she called “her little prince” at Tuesday’s public memorial ceremony. Still, there was no romantic connection between them, the actress stresses. “I think it made him relax. He didn’t want to lose things that meant something to him.” she explains.
Brooke Shields was just one of the many celebrities, friends or simply people who have been in some way touched by Michael’s music, to speak at the Staples Center memorial, the ceremony watched by over 1 billion viewers worldwide. However, the most touching moment of the event was undoubtedly when Michael’s daughter Paris, only 11 years old, took to the stage to express her love for “the best daddy ever.”
Still, many have been those who raged against the very idea of the ceremony, as we also reported a few days back. Brooke Shields only used the opportunity to get herself back in the spotlight since she had not spoken to Michael in many, many years before his death, while Paris’ speech was forced and too cruel a punishment to inflict on a child, they said.
