For those about to mix during Halloween

From what we know so far, the new PMK studio monitors announced by Mackie could very well be a first in the industry. Since more complex info is currently missing, we can't tell if this is a joke, for it looks like these new monitors are some cool toys for the audio professionals and home-recording enthusiasts alike. The new monitors have received the “reference” tag, and that's no small thing. James Woodburn, recording product manager for Mackie, says these new monitors have been engineered to address two major issues: true audio quality to satisfy the music producers' needs and a cool, funny look – to attract more customers who are simply fed up with the traditional designs.

The PMK Series Reference Studio Monitors come with a specially designed structure, carefully engineered for minimum diffraction and low resonance, in a 2-way driver-array powered up by a top-drawer amplifier.

These speakers get their juice from Mackie's original Certified Organic-architecture amplifiers, which are able to deliver an ultra-flat frequency response that's critical for a true-to-life mix. Acoustic controls have been added, letting you adjust the high and low frequency response. At the same time, Mackie claims that you can compensate the sonic reproduction of the PMK Reference Studio Monitors with simply carving additional holes in the cabinets and thus getting the best results with these units in almost any room.

Mackie have not specified how long the PMK monitors are going to last. If we were to pay attention to James Woodburn once more time, we should mention his intention of turning them into a delicious pumpkin pie just after the press release ended. We're still not sure whether these pumpkin monitors are a joke or not, nevertheless, such monitors could be an extremely neat appearance in a recording studio populated with people who enjoy a good laugh. After all, it's just true that pretty much all studio monitors look boring and even ugly when compared with Mackie's PMK series. No word on future production plans, pricing or taste.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
