During last week's CeBIT 2009 show in Hanover, Germany, MSI took the opportunity to unveil a number of new products, also expanding its lineup of gaming-focused portable computer systems. One of those new laptops is the GT628, a machine that has been designed to leverage the performance potential of NVIDIA's latest GeForce GTS 160M GPU, a graphics chip meant to provide users with mainstream performance. On that note, it appears that the Taiwanese company has just officially announced the product, which will be part of its 2009 gaming laptop lineup.

“We are thrilled to be launching a gaming notebook featuring the new NVIDIA GeForce GTS 160M graphics card,” said Andy Tung, vice president of sales, MSI US. “This GPU will allow us to offer our customers a gaming notebook with unmatched performance that delivers graphics never thought possible on a notebook.”

We had the chance to get hands-on with the new laptop at CeBIT, which provided us with a good feeling of what this gaming rig is capable of. Combining NVIDIA's GTS 160M GPU with 1GB of DDR3 graphics memory and Intel's Centrino 2, Core 2 Duo processors, the GT628 is ready to provide users with an affordable gaming performance. The system comes in the form of a 15.4-inch laptop, boasting a WSXGA+ display with a maximum resolution of 1680 by 1050 pixels. The smaller form factor enables gaming users to take advantage of a more portable gaming rig that is also performance capable.

Additional features include MSI's exclusive Turbo Drive Engine, a technology that boosts the performance of the system through a simple touch of the button, and MSI's Eco Engine, designed to allow users to save power, while the laptop isn't required to run at full potential. Other features are enabled by the use of NVIDIA's latest mobile GPUs, including PhysX and PureVideo HD technology.
