Star is ridiculed after tweet about “Sally,” admits she doesn’t understand the “hype”

Lindsay Lohan has landed again at the center of an Internet controversy though this time it’s nothing as serious as jewelry theft or hit and runs. Lindsay was among the many celebrities tweeting about Hurricane Sandy, but she was the only one to rename it.

Over the weekend, as the US East Coast was getting ready for what some meteorologists nearly compared to the end of the world, Lohan voiced her confusion online.

“WHY is everyone in SUCH a panic about hurricane (I’m calling it Sally)..” Stop projecting negativity! Think positive and pray for peace,” the actress wrote on her Twitter page.

She and her friends then renamed Sandy “sassy” and strove to make it into a trending topic.

While other stars as well used Twitter as the perfect platform to crack Sandy jokes (Ashley Greene of “Twilight,” for instance, said the hurricane was the perfect excuse to revamp her wardrobe), Lindsay is the one who’s now getting most heat online for her tweet.

Countless voices point out that she needs a publicist badly (her latest quit on her last week), but that would probably do little to change the way she expresses herself on Twitter.

Others mock her for recommending prayer as a sure way of surviving Sandy, or for her saying that talking about it “projects negativity.”

The bottom line is that either Lindsay realized her mistake or she was simply too busy with something else, because the tweets stopped right before Sandy hit.

Now’s the time when every one of these celebrities who mocked it realizes that this was no laughing matter.

The New York Daily News has a summary of some of the most outstanding tweets, from the very reasonable to the very ridiculous and pointless.
