14 DAY TRIAL // Jony Ive, Apple’s chief industrial designer, has bought a $17 million / €13.3 million house on San Francisco’s “Gold Coast.” Designed by the architectural firm Willis Polk & Co, the a 7,274-square-foot building is almost a hundred years old.
The Wall Street Journal has the scoop on Sir Jonathan’s recent acquisition, noting that the five-level brick home was completed in 1927.
It has six bedrooms, eight bathrooms (plus a ninth one-half bathroom), an oak-paneled library, a courtyard garden, six fireplaces, and some awesome views of the San Francisco Bay.
The upstairs bedroom reportedly has “cathedral ceilings with exposed beams,” while the lower level of the house features a two-bedroom, one bathroom staff apartment.
Ive has been recently accused of ripping off Braun designs. However, Dieter Rams, the design chief at the German company, publicly acknowledged his admiration towards Apple’s minimalistic designs. Ive even wrote the foreword of Dieter Rams' book “As Little Design As Possible.”
