Layered hair is best for more definition

The other days, we saw what the best hairstyles were for the square and oval faces. Today, to sum up this “series,” we’ll talk about what stylists recommend us in terms of haircuts for a round face, probably the most problematic type of the lot. Fret not, though, as “problematic” does not necessarily equal impossible to deal with, as reputed actress Renee Zellweger has repeatedly shown us.

What could best describe a round face, specialists say, is the relative lack of definition. This is precisely why, in order to get the results we’re most likely aiming for, it’s recommended we choose a cut that does not imply any added volume or that is too short and symmetric.

“Very short cuts and cuts with a lot of volume on the sides only emphasize fullness,” Kat, a stylist for Bumble and Bumble in New York City, tells Marie Claire magazine.

Since fuller cheeks are able to conceal even the best bone structure a woman was ever blessed with, hairstylists tell us that, if we have a round face, our best option is to go for a layered ‘do and choppy, asymmetric bangs, which would “slim a full face and create the illusion of cheekbones,” as the same magazine reveals. Long hair, if cut in layers, can help make the face look much longer and oval than it is in reality.

Nevertheless, if long hair is out of the question for one reason or another, then there’s also the option of a razored bob that “breaks up the roundness and adds angles where they don't naturally exist.” The secret resides, in both cases, in not going for clean cuts, which would create the impression of even more fullness than there already is and that would accentuate the natural lines of the face.

As for the part that works best with a round face, it’s probably a bit redundant to note that a centered one should be discarded right from the start, since it does nothing else but make the face seem fuller. Stylists say that a slightly off-center part works wonders for this type of face, “as it offsets roundness.”

However, fans of parting their hair in the middle still have reason to hope, as this can work too, but only if the cut is either of the two mentioned above and due attention is paid to all the minor details that can make all the difference. A centered part paired with one of the hairdo’s from above can “draw the eye up, giving [the] face the appearance of a longer shape.”

This being said, we conclude here our tour of the perfect hairstyles for the various types of faces. If the tips were of any help to you, make sure you come back for more next time.
