Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless added to its offering a new handset running under Google's Android operating system only recently, namely the HTC Rhyme, and the device is already cheaper when purchased via online retailers.

The handset can be acquired from Amazon at the moment for only $79.99 (roughly 60 Euros) with the signing of a two-year contract agreement.

The phone was made available recently with a special charm accessory aimed at keeping users informed on missed calls or on recently received messages.

Otherwise, it comes with all of the usual features and specs that one would expect to find in a device that runs under Android.

“Offering a smart, elegant unibody design with every detail carefully crafted to deliver a unique sensory experience, the Android-powered HTC Rhyme for Verizon Wireless features a fast 1 GHz processor and beautiful 3.7-inch multi-touch display,” Amazon explains.

“In addition to Android, it also offers the next-generation HTC Sense user interface experience, which includes quicker startup times from hibernation mode as well as a consolidated view of your favorite social networking sites.”

On the back, the new device packs a 5megapixel photo snapper with support for HD 720p video capture, and sports a microSD memory card slot aimed at expanding the available storage space by up to 32GB (an 8GB card included in the package).

It also includes 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity capabilities, as well as Bluetooth 3.0, built-in GPS receiver, and the usual set of sensors, along with a 1600 mAh lithium-ion battery capable of delivering up to 7 hours of talk time. It also sports fast access to various services from Google.

“With the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, you'll get seamlessly integrated access to a wide range of Google Mobile Services, including Gmail, YouTube, Google Search, and Google Maps, as well as access to more than 250,000 apps available to download from Android Market,” Amazon explains.
