A creative architect has managed to change the look of the crowded, populous Taipei, by developing and introducing his one of-a-kind bamboo-based structure in the city.

Marco Casagrande wants to improve the aesthetic side of public areas; therefore, the green Cicada, his 60th revolutionary masterpiece unveiled so far, is considered an important element in this strategy.

Casagrande has succeeded in highlighting the close connection between people and the environment using raw, sustainable materials. The concept brings back the familiarity and warmth vanishing in most of the overcrowded urban areas.

The cocoon functions just like a big tent, offering people the chance to admire the beauty of nature while relaxing and enjoying a breath of fresh air. Nobody would expect to find any kind of furniture inside, judging by its minimalist design. However, Cicada has a few wooden benches and a tiny fire pit.

The rustic structure is definitely something worth looking at, being totally different than what Taipei has to offer to its tourists. All in all, it helps people remember their roots, proving once more that sustainable design can be appealing even when it comes in its most unconventional forms.
