In March this year, confirmation finally came that Chris Evans had accepted Marvel’s offer to be the lead in “Captain America,” yet another film that will hopefully turn out into a bankable franchise.

Shooting for the film is now underway in Manchester for that old town feeling needed for 1940s scenes, and fans have a first look at their favorite superhero.

The photos that have surfaced online show the actor in a body-hugging beige top, matching pants and prosthetic feet, so that he doesn’t hurt himself running on the cobbled streets.

Aside from Chris’ ripped physique, fans can also see from the photos that the film will be action-packed (how else could it be?) and that at least one big explosion will be featured, as the Daily Mail can confirm.

“Shooting the scenes in Manchester today, Evans’ stunt double showed exactly how action-filled the new movie is going to be when he wrestled a woman holding a gun to the ground,” the Mail notes.

“The stunt man took a running jump to stop the woman, who was wearing some kind of army uniform, from shooting another person,” the tabloid says.

“While the lady appeared to be wearing padded bottoms, there’s no doubt that being pushed to the ground at such force must have been less than comfortable for her,” the same publication writes.

According to the same source, Evans is not the only star on location, shooting scenes for the upcoming film: Tommy Lee Jones, Dominic Cooper, Samuel L. Jackson and Hayley Atwell are also shooting for different scenes.

Talking about his role as Steve Rogers, Evans said a while back that he was a bit terrified about the idea about bringing him to life on the big screen.

It wasn’t so much that Rogers was such a wonderful role model by being Captain America that made the actor a bit nervous, but also the fact that he was a wonderful human being as well.

“He’s an incredibly noble, honest, selfless man, and those are qualities that I think people can aspire to and look up to,” Evans said.

So far, he seems to be doing a wonderful job at least on one front. “Captain America: The First Avenger” is being shot in 2D but will be converted to 3D in post-production, ahead of its summer 2011 release.
