Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, the second MMORPG of the 25-year-old series, is officially scheduled to launch on PlayStation 4 sometime during April 2014.

Originally released in late 2010, the game received widespread negative reception. This led to Square Enix completely redesigning it and releasing the revamped version in August 2013 on PC and PS3.

The new version carried over the original setting and lore, integrating the transition into the storyline as a mass extinction event, and so far sold almost a million copies worldwide.

According to Siliconera, Square Enix will arrange for a beta test of their game to begin on February 22, the same day the PlayStation 4 console launches in Japan.

Additionally, players who purchased the PlayStation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be able to upgrade their edition to the PlayStation 4 version for free, when the time comes.

The only caveat is that once they choose to upgrade, they will no longer be able to play the PlayStation 3 version.
