Quotium has released an interesting infographic which shows the evolution of hackers and their attacks since 1990 and until 2013.

The infographic shows that in 1996, hackers vandalized the CIA’s website. Then, later in 1998, the website of the New York Times was defaced. The same year, hacktivists hit 300 websites, which at the time seemed a lot.

Starting with the year 2000, large-scale denial-of-service (DOS) attacks came into the picture, attacks being launched against the websites of Yahoo, Amazon, CNN and eBay.

Judging by the large number of high-profile attacks we’ve witnessed this year, 2014 will be very interesting as well. In fact, some predict that we’ll see at least one major data breach each month next year.
