14 DAY TRIAL // Jailbreakers have discovered that evasi0n, the new hack tool released by the evad3rs, causes jailbroken devices to reveal stuff that was previously hidden to the naked eye. The hack also messes up the Weather application on iPhones.
Early adopters of the jailbreak tool have discovered that their Weather app was no longer working. Hackers MuscleNerd and pod2g assure users that @planetbeing is working on a fix, and that it should be released via Cydia relatively soon.
MuscleNerd: “For those seeing the Weather app problem, @planetbeing has started working on a fix. Until then, just don't go outside.”
Pod2g: “We are currently investigating the weather app problem. A fix will popup on cydia when the problem is understood.”
With the bad news out of the way, we’re happy to tell you that evasi0n also causes iOS to reveal some secrets.
For instance, while the tool hinders the Weather app on iPhones, it actually reveals it on iPads. It’s not a native port, but it seems Apple always wanted to include it on iPads, yet never got around to doing so. The app remained hidden in iOS until now.
Evasi0n also reveals a couple of “Radio Buy” buttons, supporting rumors of Apple creating an iRadio service to compete with the likes of Pandora.
Rumors broke out last year that executives from Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group Corp, and Sony Corp met with Apple to discuss a potential deal to put a comprehensive radio service on iDevices.
Bloomberg reported at the time, “Talks are centered in part around how to share ad revenue and a deal could be reached by mid-November, with Apple starting a service within the first three months of 2013, said the people, who asked not to be named because discussions are still in progress.”
