The third Milestone stage of Windows 8 brings with it a new wallpaper which has already been leaked in the wild.

Users can see a portion of the new Windows 8 Milestone 3 background image on the left as well as download the actual wallpaper (at a resolution of 2560x1600) via the links at the bottom of this article.

While new Windows 8 wallpapers have already been revealed in various previous leaks, this new background was just introduced in M3.

The new Windows 8 M3 wallpaper was provided by Stephen Chapman, along with the confirmation that the software giant has already started to serve the Milestone 3 bits of the next major iteration of the Windows client via Microsoft Connect.

If you are like me, then you certainly missed the fish that made its first appearance in the Windows 7 Beta Build a while back.

Well, I do have some good news for you. It appears that with Windows 8 M3, the Beta fish is making a comeback, albeit in a very stylized form. On the other hand, there are now more fish to go around in a single wallpaper.

Betta splendens is the Latin name for the Siamese fighting fish also referred to as the betta for short.

It’s obvious that Microsoft is preparing for the Windows 8 Beta, which is planned for availability following the M3 phase.

Being nostalgic about the Windows 7 Beta testing program I must confess that the new Windows 8 fish wallpaper resonates with me.

UPDATE: On second look, it appears that the fish featured in the Windows 8 M3 wallpaper is not the betta, but Pterophyllum. Sorry for the mix-up!

What about you? What do you think about the new Windows 8 M3 wallpaper? Do you like it?
