14 DAY TRIAL // Crysis 3 developer Crytek is quite proud of its upcoming shooter and confirms that the game will max out current-gen consoles like the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 and that it will rival next-generation devices with its visual quality on the PC.
Crytek made a name for itself by delivering gorgeous shooters like Far Cry 1 or Crysis 1 and 2. While all of them looked great when they came out, the studio is even more proud of the upcoming Crysis 3, which maxes out the different platforms on which it will appear.
"Crysis 3 is absolutely maxing out the consoles," Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli told VideoGamer. "There is absolutely not even 1% left. No game will ever look technically better than Crysis 3 on these consoles, flat out."
Yerli highlights that most games can barely equal the quality of Crysis 2, the latest game in the series, which came out back in 2011 on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
"Most games are not even anywhere near Crysis 2 technically. I'm not talking about art style – art is subjective – but the pure fact of what we have been cramming in with Crysis 2 on Xbox [360] and PlayStation [3], I've yet to see a game do that still today."
Yerli gladly welcomes any comparisons with other great-looking games and emphasizes that the PC version will be the most impressive one.
"Any day I will take a battle against Gears and Halo, whatever, the amount of data we put in and the detail level is far superior. With Crysis 3 we're pushing that to another level, but the PC is just two levels beyond."
The Crytek boss also claims that he's seen the potential specs of next-generation consoles and says that the Crysis 3 on the PC will more than rival them in terms of quality.
"That's why we said [two years ago] that Crysis 3 is next-gen ready already," Yerli added. "We did that without knowing the specs [of next-generation consoles], but it's not going to be much more than what we have done so far. And it turns out we were pretty much right."
Crysis 3 is out on February 19, 2013, in North America, and February 22, in Europe and the rest of the world.
