14 DAY TRIAL // Great and totally surprising news comes from Comic-Con 2013 in San Diego, as director Frank Miller has confirmed that the sequel to this year’s blockbuster “Man of Steel” (aka the new Superman) will also feature another great superhero: Batman.
Slash Film reports that Snyder walked on stage during the panel and took the microphone from the moderator, saying he had some great news to share with fans.
He spoke of the need for secrecy and how he’s bound not to reveal too many details about his next Superman flick, but, in the end, he gave fans the biggest hint ever.
“It’s official that we are going to make another Superman movie. And you say, Zack, what is the movie about? But you don’t want me to tell you that. You want to go and see the movie. But I can say that maybe there’s a single element that will be in the film that I could… help you out with,” Snyder said.
“I was thinking about how to do that. I pored through the DC Universe to look for a way to tell this thing. We’re writing the thing now, but I came across a thing I found that’ll help you understand it,” he added.
This is when Harry Lennix cut in, to read: “I want you to remember, Clark, in all the years to come, in all your most private moments, I want you to remember your hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you.”
This is a line from Frank Miller’s comic “The Dark Knight Returns,” with Batman speaking to Superman.
This will be the first time the two share the same screen. However, Snyder stressed that the film won’t be an exact adaptation of the comic, but only an interpretation of it.
Shortly after the announcement, a press release from the movie studio confirmed the news. It also noted that Henry Cavill would return as Superman, but made no mention of who might play Batman.
Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane are also slated to reprise their roles, with David S. Goyer now working on the script.
Production will begin in 2014 for a tentative release in the summer of 2015.
