His is not a name that rings a bell with millions but, once “Thor” comes out in about a month’s time, it will probably be. Chris Hemsworth is in the May 2011 issue of GQ Australia, where he’s promoting his upcoming film.

Also starring Natalie Portman and Sir Anthony Hopkins, the film tells the story of Thor, god of thunder, who is banished to Earth for his inconsiderate actions and overinflated pride.

Here, he meets a woman he falls in love with and, of course, will be offered the chance to save the planet from an attack only he could counter.

Speaking of the experience of doing such a huge movie with such a talented cast, Hemsworth says it was so amazing and humbling that not even he could believe it was happening to him.

Plus, he got to kiss Natalie Portman, which is always a plus in any man’s book.

“[It was] ridiculous. Going from kissing Natalie Portman to working with Anthony Hopkins – the whole experience was like, ‘What the [expletive] am I doing here?’” Chris says.

“But in a good way,” he adds immediately, lest his words be interpreted in the wrong way. “It literally seemed like last week I was still working on Home and Away,” he says.

Not only the cast helped him come to terms with what was happening to him and, at the same time, rise up to the challenge of playing Thor.

Chris admits that the support from the fans also helped him stay motivated and try to give it his best.

“I did Comic-Con and there were 7,000 people. They showed a clip from the film then we did interviews where there were 20 people at each table, so that was the introduction,” he says of the first time anything from the movie was shown to the public.

“I was thrown into it – holy [expletive]! I got a real sense of the fan base that Thor has and the buzz around it,” he adds.
