It appears that more and more handset manufacturers are hunting for the title of the slimmest Android smartphone available on the market.

After NEC, Motorola and Fujitsu Android phones were crowned as the thinnest available out there, Huawei has just claimed the title with its new Ascend P1 S smartphone.

The folks over at The Unwired have learned that Huawei Ascend P1 S is only 6.68mm thick, slightly thinner in comparison with Fujitsu’s ARROWS μ F-07D handset that measures 6.7mm.

Huawei confirmed plans to release more high-end Android smartphones in 2012 and the company seems to be true to its word with the new announcement.

In this regard, the Huawei Ascend P1 S is equipped with a powerful dual core TI OMAP 4460 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, which is complemented by a PowerVR SGX540 graphics processing unit, the same that powers the Motorola RAZR smartphone.

Moreover, Huawei claims that this high-end smartphone will run Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform, which is another strong point of the device.

The phone comes with a large 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD capacitive touchscreen, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The display supports 16 million colors and 960 x 540 pixels resolution.

In the same news, Huawei also unveiled a second Android-based phone that seems to have similar features as the Ascend P1 S with one exception, the battery. While the Ascend P1 S embeds a high-capacity 1800 mAh Li-Ion battery, the Ascend P1 drains energy from a 1670 mAh Li-Ion battery.

It is also worth mentioning that the Ascend P1 is a bit thicker at 7.69mm than its Ascend P1 S brother, which measures only 6.68mm.

Furthermore, each device packs 1GB of RAM, 4GB onboard memory, Bluetooth 3.0 and Wi-Fi support, as well as dual cameras (8-megapixel rear camera and 1.3-megapixel front-facing photo snapper).

According to Huawei, both Ascend P1 S and P1 will be available in metallic black, cherry blossom pink and ceramic white in Europe, Asia-Pacific, North America, Australia, Middle East and China in Q2 2012.
