Inspired by an Intel advertisement on which Softpedia reported earlier this week, the mockup of a dark-colored MacBook Pro theoretically forged from Liquidmetal is truly breathtaking.

Envisioned by Italian illustrator Dario Crisafulli, the Liquidmetal MacBook Pro hits all the right spots from a design standpoint.

Compared to the current MacBook Pro lineup, the system is 30 percent thinner, most likely thanks to the exclusion of the optical drive, and features a dark metal finish, although the material used could easily go for plastic if you weren’t allowed to touch it.

Imagining that everyone will be able to touch it soon enough, Dario went ahead to dub it the "MacBook Pro 2011 - Liquid Metal".

Why? Join us for a little history lesson, in case you’ve been away from Apple rumors lately.

As the story goes, Apple has signed a licensing deal with Liquidmetal Technologies to be allowed to use a space-age alloy which possess an "amorphous" atomic structure.

The metal is both hard and extremely light, it is highly resistant to corroding agents, and can even be imprinted, from what we hear. Imagine an Apple hologram on the back of this thing.

Said metal is darker than aluminum (the current material employed by Apple for machining the MacBook Pro’s chasis), hence the dark design proposed by Dario Crisafulli.

While we wouldn’t be surprised to witness the introduction of this stunning new MacBook Pro, it will be hard for Apple to pull off that slim design, provided that storage capacities should not decrease by phasing out the hard disk drive.

While the optical drive is definitely on its way out (whether Apple fans agree or not), storage will surely pose a problem.

Even 256GB solid-state modules cost a lot to build inside Apple’s MacBook Air. The MacBook Pro deserves a lot more, and the need for higher storage capacities is on the rise.

Hopefully, Apple will at least launch something that looks as good as this; we’ll let others worry about the specs.

After seeing this truly breathtaking Liquidmetal MacBook Pro mockup, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
