14 DAY TRIAL // A regulatory filing spanning 18-pages with the North Carolina Utilities Commission reveals that iPhone-maker Apple Inc. has chosen SunPower as the supplier for its massive solar panel array scheduled to kick into gear later this year.
The solar farm for Apple’s North Carolina data center will be built in phases, the filing said. The array could begin delivering electricity to the grid as early as October, according to the documents.
The filing specifically states that "Each of the photovoltaic installations will consist of multiple SunPower E20 435-watt photovoltaic modules on ground-mounted single axis tracking systems."
Apple originally revealed plans for its massive solar installation in the company’s 2012 Environmental Update issued last month. The Cupertino, California-based giant also wants to erect a second "green" data center in Prineville, Oregon (next-door to Facebook).
