According to the latest Android distribution charts from Internet giant Google' the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system is present on no less than 63.9 percent of all active Android devices on the market at the moment.

The platform version has increased its share among other Android flavors by over 2.5 percent points in the past few weeks, Google shows.

The estimation is based on “data collected during two weeks ending on April 1, 2011,” which counts all Android devices that accessed the Android Market in the time frame.

As any other estimation, the data might not be 100% accurate, but it does offer a pretty good idea on the platform versions that are used the most in real world, so that app developers can target them with their software.

The said data was published on the Android Developers website, and shows that Froyo is now present on more devices that it was about two weeks ago, when it accounted for 61.3 percent of all active Android devices.

At the same time, we should note that Gingerbread, the new platform release from Google, is present on 2.5 percent of Android devices.

Two variants of this OS flavor were already released, namely 2.3, present on 0.8 percent of all active Android devices, and Android 2.3.3, which accounts for 1.7 percent of them.

The new charts also welcome the Android 3.0 Honeycomb platform release, which accounts for 0.2 percent of all active devices out there (only tablet PCs are based on this OS version).

As for the older Android variants, they are slowly losing ground in front of newcomers, with Android 2.1 accounting for 27.2 percent of active Android devices, down from the 29 percent it accounted for only two weeks ago.

Android 1.6 and Android 1.5, soon to become obsolete, are present on 3.5 percent and 2.7 percent of active devices, down from 4.8 percent and 3.0 percent, respectively.
