14 DAY TRIAL // Adobe has just announced the release of Flash Player 10.3 for Android devices, with a series of important security fixes and improvements included into the mix.
With the new release, users would enjoy a better web browsing experience while on the go, with support for various content and video across devices.
The new release of Flash Player for Android comes with build number 10.3.185.21.
Adobe also announced that the new Flash Player 10.3 comes as a production GA (General Availability) release for Android 2.2 (Froyo), 2.3 (Gingerbread), and Android 3.01 (Honeycomb) devices.
In the official announcement regarding the availability of the new Flash Player release, Adobe also notes that it would offer performance enhancements to all Android 3.1 Honeycomb users (Motorola XOOM is the only device to receive this OS flavor as of yet).
Some of the main fixes and enhancements included in the new Flash Player 10.3.185.21 would be:
- Enabled NEON optimizations for OMAP4 (Cortex A-9) based devices. (2853030) - Corrected an issue on the Samsung Galaxy S where H.264 video at resolutions of 720p and below was not displayed. (2852889) - Android Apps using Browser Plug-ins like Flash Player in WebView no longer need to set android:hardwareAcceleration to True in their AndroidMainfest.xml for plug-in output to be rendered. This was previously an issue on Android 3.0+ only. (2834793) - Fixed a crash on the HTC EVO that some users encountered with specific video. (2855425) - Fixed an issue that caused video frames to stop rendering on long streaming videos (> 1 hour) on some Motorola devices. (2855957)
While the new Flash Player 10.3 brings improvements on Android devices, there are also a series of known issues with it that users should be aware of, affecting various products out there.
Motorola XOOM users might see the browser unresponsive if put in the background while Flash Player is in Full-Screen mode. HTC G2 users would experience unresponsive Flash when the keyboard is out.
Samsung Galaxy Tab is affected by some issues as well, while others hit HTC Desire and HTC Desire HD devices, or the Nexus One smartphones out there.
