As IPS panels gain in popularity among display makers, AOC has announced the introduction of a new 23-inch IPS computer monitor that promises to deliver an elegant look with its ultra-thin case while also coming at an attractive price point.

According to the company, its latest creation measures just 9.2mm in thickness, has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, while also boasting a dynamic contrast ratio of 50,000,000:1, a response time of 5ms, and a typical brightness of 250 cd/m2.

A pair of audio speakers are also built-in inside the display, and connectivity options include a two HDMI ports.

Outside of these basic features, AOC has also added a series of options meant to improve the energy efficiency of its monitor such as the eSaver feature that lets you preset power conservation modes for the display when the PC is not in use or an Off Timer that turns down the display after a preset amount of time.

Another interesting option is the embedded Screen+ software that allows you to divide the screen into four self-contained work areas for added productivity.

IPS stands for In-Plane Switching and the technology was developed by Hitachi in 1996 to fix the main limitations faced by TN (twisted nematic) panels, which included small viewing angles and low-quality color reproduction.

"The Aire Pro is a high-end, high performance LED IPS panel display that is extremely versatile and ideal for both home and work settings," said Robert Velez, AOC Marketing Manager.

"Along with its award-winning design and excellent image quality, the Aire Pro also offers environmentally friendly features that help to reduce energy consumption and costs," concluded the company's rep.

The Aire Pro monitor, (product code i2353Ph) is available as we speak for $199, or roughly 147 EUR, at TigerDirect.com as well as through other nation-wide retailers.
