Shows some of its beauty

AMD's highly rumored RV790-based graphics card, the Radeon HD 4890, has recently surfaced to the Internet in pretty pixels. This latest round of details on AMD's upcoming single-core flagship card appears to indicate that earlier rumors, indicating 6th of April as a possible release date, could potentially be true. As you will see in the pictures, the card requires a dual-slot fansink cooling system to lower the high temperatures over the GPU. This solution makes the Radeon HD 4890 look similar to the company's current highest-performance single-GPU card, the RV770-based Radeon HD 4870.

Along with photos of the card, which have surfaced on the PCOnline Chinese forum, there are also some screenshots with GPU-Z and the Catalyst Control Center. Unfortunately, GPU-Z doesn't recognize all of the specifications of the pictured card, but does see an ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series graphics card with the 9460 GPU ID, which comes with a clock speed of 850MHz and a memory speed of 975MHz.

Aside from the aforementioned details, the card is featured with a cooling system similar to that of the Radeon HD 4870 and offers the already standard outputs, with two DVI and one S-Video. The card also uses a 2 x 6 pin connector for an external source of power and a PCI-Express x16 interface. It is CrossFire-ready and, as you can see in the Catalyst screenshots, it runs relatively hot, roughly at about the same level as the HD 4870.

At this time, AMD is said to have already begun shipping the new card, while some online distributors have listed it for a price tag close to 250 Euros. This could somehow be a setback for AMD, especially if the performance of the card is not significantly higher than that of the RV770-based Radeon HD 4870.
